What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment used to reduce submental fullness, or the area of excess fat also known as a double chin. Kybella is an effective lipolysis agent because it contains a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid; in your body, naturally occurring deoxycholic acid plays a major role in helping your digestive system break down dietary fats for absorption.

When your provider at Skin Med Spa injects Kybella into the fat cells beneath your chin, it disrupts their integrity to the point where they can no longer function properly, effectively undermining their ability to accumulate fat. As a result, your chin loses some of its fullness, and you achieve an improved profile. 

Kybella can also be used to help melt unwanted fat from your arms, knees, and bra strap area.

Am I a good candidate for Kybella?

If having submental fullness makes you feel self-conscious, heavier, or older than your age — and if getting regular exercise and eating nutritious meals don’t seem to have an impact on the extra bit of fat beneath your chin — then Kybella may be just the solution for you.

What is Kybella treatment like?

Kybella is designed to work over multiple treatments spaced out at least four weeks apart. Some people may see significant results after just two sessions, while others need as many as six sessions; the average person needs just 2-4 sessions to achieve optimal results.  Treatment starts with a customized plan that addresses your personal needs.

During each procedure, multiple small injections are administered under your chin, in a process that takes about 15-20 minutes. The exact number of injections you’ll need depends on your degree of submental fullness as well as your desired chin profile.

Common side effects, which include swelling, redness, bruising, pain, and numbness, are usually mild and short-lived.

What kind of results can I expect?

Once you’ve completed a full Kybella treatment cycle, you can expect long-lasting results that don’t require future upkeep. That’s because, unlike most other injectable cosmetic treatments, the results of Kybella are permanent.
