Skin Resurfacing vs. Microneedling: Which Is Right for You?
You know your skin needs … something. Once vital, fresh, and new, it now seems lifeless and dull.
At Skin Med Spa, our expert team loves helping clients just like you. What are the two procedures we typically recommend to renew your skin? Skin resurfacing and microneedling.
But how do you determine which procedure is the right one for you? Read on to find out!
What is skin resurfacing?
With our skin resurfacing procedures, we use advanced technologies to remove damaged outer layers of skin and stimulate collagen production for a healthier, more radiant complexion.
Our ResurFx laser on the Lumenis M22 laser is a non-ablative fractional laser that targets deeper layers of the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This helps stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture with minimal downtime.
We also offer the DEKA CO2 laser, which provides a range of resurfacing options—from a gentle CoolPeel treatment for light rejuvenation with minimal downtime, all the way to full CO2 resurfacing for more dramatic results in treating deep wrinkles, scars, and advanced sun damage. Additionally, the Opus Plasma laser uses plasma energy to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering collagen production and skin renewal while offering customizable intensity levels and shorter recovery times compared to traditional resurfacing methods.
The concentrated beams of light destroy and remove damaged skin cells that give your skin a dull look. These treatments work by removing or remodeling damaged skin cells that contribute to a dull appearance. As these cells are replaced, newer, fresher skin is revealed, giving you a more youthful glow.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling uses fine needles to create tiny puncture wounds in your skin. This does a few things to improve the appearance of your skin: It stimulates collagen production, restores elasticity, and even boosts capillary formation, making your skin fuller and more vibrant.
Microneedling improves the evenness of your skin’s texture, tone, and color, and it helps tighten sagging skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and fade the appearance of scars.
Which one is right for you?
Though both procedures rejuvenate your skin, giving you a refreshed, younger look, there are a few differences.
Skin resurfacing can result in smoother skin, fewer wrinkles, reduced stretch marks, diminished acne scars, and improvement in sunspots and pigmentation concerns. As collagen continues to rebuild over time, your skin will look even brighter and more refined.
It works well for deeper wrinkles and more severe skin damage. The disadvantage is that recovery can take longer—even up to a few weeks—for complete healing.
Microneedling, on the other hand, provides more subtle results that take longer to complete. It’s versatile and can be used on a wide variety of skin tones and types, as well as in many different areas of your body. One of the biggest advantages is minimal downtime after treatment, with only minor irritation and redness for a few days.
The best procedure for you will depend on your specific situation and needs. Our provider team at Skin Med Spa will be happy to evaluate your skin and walk you through the pros and cons to determine the best procedure for you.
