Most people need a series of 3 to 6 or more sessions. Fresh reddish-purple stretch marks respond faster and better; older silvery-white ones are harder and improve partially rather than disappearing.

Stretch marks are scars in the deeper layer of skin, formed when it stretches faster than it can adapt. Treating them means remodeling that scar tissue, which is why it takes a series and why realistic expectations matter.

The single biggest factor is age of the mark. New stretch marks that are still red or purple have active blood vessels and are more responsive, often improving meaningfully across a handful of sessions. Older marks that have turned white or silver have lost their pigment and blood supply, so they are more stubborn and typically show partial improvement, softened texture and reduced visibility, rather than full removal.

Treatment usually involves fractional laser or radiofrequency microneedling, which trigger collagen to rebuild and refill the depressed scar. Sessions are spaced several weeks apart to allow that collagen to form, and 3 to 6 is a common starting range, with more for extensive or old marks.

The honest headline: "removal" oversells it for most cases. Significant fading and smoother texture are realistic and achievable. Complete erasure, especially of old white marks, generally is not. A candid look at your marks' color and age is what sets an accurate session count.
