Is Bellafill permanent?

Yes. Bellafill is the only FDA-approved permanent dermal filler, with results studied out to five years and beyond. That permanence is both its advantage and the reason it demands a careful consultation.

Most fillers are hyaluronic acid, which your body breaks down over 6 to 18 months. Bellafill is built differently. It combines tiny PMMA microspheres suspended in bovine collagen. The collagen gives you immediate correction, and the microspheres stay in place permanently, acting as a scaffold your own tissue grows around.

That is why it is used for deep nasolabial folds and, in a dedicated formulation, for atrophic acne scars. For the right scar or fold, a durable structural filler makes sense in a way a dissolving gel cannot.

The trade-off is honesty about permanence. Because it does not dissolve, Bellafill cannot be reversed the way hyaluronic acid can. That raises the bar on injector skill, product placement, and conservative dosing. It also requires a skin allergy test roughly a month before treatment, since it contains bovine collagen.

Bellafill is a strong choice when longevity is the goal and the anatomy is stable and well understood. It is the wrong choice for anyone who wants the flexibility to change their mind.

At Skin Med Spa, Bellafill is provided by our board-certified medical team at 960 Warren Ave. in Downers Grove, Illinois. Same-day appointments are available at 630-541-8413, and a consultation is the best way to find out what fits your skin and goals.
