What is the downtime for CoolPeel?

CoolPeel typically has 1 to 3 days of downtime. Expect sunburn-like redness for a day or two and skin that feels rough for a few days, far less than the one to two weeks of a traditional CO2 laser.

CoolPeel is a superficial fractional CO2 resurfacing treatment performed with the Tetra laser. Its whole design goal is to deliver the resurfacing benefit of CO2, brighter tone, smoother texture, refined pores, softened fine lines, without the heat that causes traditional CO2's long recovery. It does this by firing very short, high-energy pulses that resurface the surface while leaving minimal residual heat in surrounding tissue.

That is why the recovery is short. Most people are red like a mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, and the skin feels dry and rough, like fine sandpaper, for about 3 to 4 days as it renews. Makeup can usually go on within a couple of days. A deeper Tetra setting can extend redness toward 5 to 7 days if a more aggressive result is chosen, so the downtime scales with the intensity you and your provider select.

The trade-off against traditional CO2 is honest: CoolPeel usually needs a short series (often 3 to 4 treatments) to match what a single aggressive CO2 session can do, in exchange for the far lighter recovery. Diligent hydration and sun protection during healing are essential.

At Skin Med Spa, CoolPeel CO2 is provided by our board-certified medical team at 960 Warren Ave. in Downers Grove, Illinois. Same-day appointments are available at 630-541-8413, and a consultation is the best way to find out what fits your skin and goals.
