Plan on 3 to 6 sessions for most acne scarring, spaced several weeks apart. The number and approach depend heavily on your scar type, and results are meaningful improvement rather than complete erasure.

Acne scars are not all the same, and that is the single most important thing to understand before counting sessions. Rolling scars, broad and shallow, respond well to collagen-building resurfacing. Boxcar scars, with sharper edges, need more focused work. Ice-pick scars, narrow and deep, are the most resistant and often need specialized techniques beyond surface resurfacing.

Because of that variety, an honest plan is usually a combination. Fractional laser resurfacing and radiofrequency microneedling rebuild collagen to lift depressed scars, and these are the workhorses across 3 to 6 sessions. Certain deep scars benefit from adjunct techniques done alongside. Red or brown marks left behind by old acne, which are not true scars, respond to different light-based treatment entirely and often clear faster.

Sessions are spaced roughly 4 to 6 weeks apart because you are relying on collagen remodeling, which takes time to build between rounds and continues maturing for months after the series.

Set expectations honestly. Well-planned treatment commonly achieves substantial improvement, smoother texture and less noticeable scars, but complete erasure is rare, particularly for deep ice-pick scarring. An assessment of your specific scar types is what determines both the method and the real session count.
