Are you sick and tired of seeing wrinkles every time you look in the mirror? If you’re ready to do something about them, we can help — we just need to know what kind of wrinkles they are.
As you get older, you may become more frustrated when you look in the mirror and notice wrinkles appearing on your face. You may be considering some sort of treatment for your wrinkles, but what you may not realize is that not all wrinkles are the same, so they will require different kinds of treatments.
There are two main kinds of wrinkles: dynamic and static wrinkles. The most effective treatment will vary depending on which type you have.
The expert team at Skin Med Spa, including board-certified practitioners Barbara Kowalczyk and Michael Fressola and their staff can smooth out wrinkles of both types, leaving your skin looking smooth, vibrant and, much younger. Here’s how they do it.
What are static and dynamic wrinkles?
Dynamic wrinkles appear on your face when you make a specific movement or expression, often related to an emotion such as surprise or stress. Examples of this include the crow’s feet that appear at the corners of your eyes when you squint or the forehead wrinkles that show up when you furrow your brow. You can only see these wrinkles when the underlying muscles contract.
Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are not dependent on motion to be seen. They start small and deepen over the years until they seem to be a permanent part of your skin. These wrinkles show up because of the natural loss of elasticity and collagen, reducing the volume of your skin. Examples include the wrinkles that run from your nose to the corner of your mouth or lines that run across your cheeks.
How are static and dynamic wrinkles treated?
Because dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscles that move, the best way to reduce the wrinkles is to reduce the motion of the specific muscles that cause the specific wrinkles. Botox is a good example of a neuromodulator that can target specific muscles to relax their movement so that wrinkles will stop occurring.
Static wrinkles are usually best treated with a dermal filler such as Juvéderm. The filler can be injected immediately underneath the wrinkled area to add volume to the skin and restore the youthfulness and firmness that may have faded over the years. Chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing can also make a difference here.
